0 Euro Souvenir KURENTOVANJE PTUJ - KURENT / KORANT
Kurent is part of UNESCO’s globally significant heritage treasures Kurent, also known as Korant, is the most well-known and most widespread traditional Slovenian carnival figure. As a magical ethnographic character, it brings good fortune and joy; while it is a symbol of Ptuj and Slovenia, on a deeper symbolic and spiritual level it represents much more.
At the heart of Kurentovanje are the Kurent (Korant) rounds, an ancient carnival custom whose meaning goes far beyond folklore. With their powerful costumes, the sound of bells, and their distinctive ritual role, Kurents symbolically summon spring, fertility, and new life energy. Due to this exceptional symbolism and the unbroken transmission of the tradition from generation to generation, the Kurent rounds were inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, giving Kurentovanje special significance and international recognition. At the same time, the Kurents and their rounds are one of the key reasons why Ptuj was awarded the prestigious title “Best Cultural Heritage City in Europe 2026.”
